back to the basics

January 6, 2010

Saw this picture over at Swiss Miss (a blog I like a lot!). It’s called Everything I Have by Simon Evans. Anyways, it got me thinking that if I had a poster to make showing everything I have, I would need a lot more paper. Why do we/I have so much? I really admire when people live simpler lives with less “stuff” and aim to purge and donate frequently.  My resolution this year will be to live with less. And hopefully by the end of the 2010, I will have a much smaller poster to create.

I like this! I have a rule that everytime a postcard comes in the mail from an organization – Cancer Society, Amvets, etc. – doing a scheduled pick-up in my neighborhood, I always confirm to participate. Then that forces me to go through more things. Another thing I do is that for each new item I buy, I make the commitment to donate something old. This helps me at stores when I think I need something versus just want it and it especially helps me think about the clothes I have. (mainly dresses!)

A constant effort these days to keep the amount of “stuff” at bay. Especially feeling it post holiday. I am with you – good luck!
